What is PLP coenzyme, and is it also called P5P?

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate is commonly abbreviated PLP or P5P. It is a vitamin B6 coenzyme form; pyridoxine hydrochloride is a different B6 ingredient. An inquiry for “PLP coenzyme” should identify the actual raw material, hydration and assay basis before it becomes a purchase specification.

Align the quotation, reference standard, specification and batch certificate with that identity; a generic PLP label does not establish a matching hydrate.

Vitamin B6 versus PLP: chemistry is not a clinical superiority claim

Pyridoxine and PLP differ chemically. However, the NIH vitamin B6 fact sheet explains that phosphorylated B6 forms are dephosphorylated before intestinal absorption. “Active coenzyme form” therefore does not mean an oral ingredient bypasses all metabolic processing, nor does it alone establish better absorption or clinical benefit.

PathGene batch PGPLP-260613 identifies the monohydrate and reports assay 100.4% on a dry basis (specification 98.0-101.0%), water 7.7%, and free vitamin B6 ND. ND means not detected under the method's conditions; it is not a numeric zero. Request the detection limit if needed for qualification.

The 100.4% assay is preserved as reported. Ask for the reference-standard assignment and method before comparing it with an as-is percentage, chromatographic purity or another hydrate's result. Water content alone does not prove the hydrate identity. The reported pH of 2.9 belongs to the certificate's test conditions; it is not a universal formulation target.

Solubility, storage and sample qualification

This lot's certificate describes the material as slightly soluble in water and soluble in alkaline solution, and specifies sealed, cool, dry storage away from light. Do not turn that qualitative observation into a guaranteed solution concentration. Define solvent, concentration, temperature and pH for your sample trial; apparent dissolution does not establish chemical stability.
