NMN Batch COA Review: Purity, Dry-Basis Assay and Lot Traceability

NMN Batch COA Review: Purity, Dry-Basis Assay and Lot Traceability

An NMN batch COA should connect a defined material to a lot number, analytical results and release decision. This guide focuses on reading that document; commercial terms and supplier qualification are covered in the NMN supplier selection checklist.

Start with beta-NMN identity and the tested lot

Match β-NMN, CAS 1094-61-7, to the product name, sample or delivery lot, test date and identification method. Confirm the analytical method's suitability if your project needs to distinguish particular forms or impurities. A generic product specification is not a COA for the shipment.

Purity and dry-basis assay answer different questions

Read each reported value with its method and calculation basis. Do not automatically equate a chromatographic purity percentage with dry-basis assay, or treat loss on drying as a specific water-content measurement. Compare supplier results only when the analytical and reporting bases are comparable.

A disclosed NMN lot: specification versus result

PathGene currently lists its beta-NMN powder at ≥99.5% purity. The separately disclosed COA for reference lot PGNMN-260522 has its own specification limits and results, as shown below. The lot record is an example, not the acceptance document for every future shipment.

ItemReference-lot COA specificationReported lot result
Purity≥99.0%99.9%
Assay, dry basis≥99.0%100.0%
Loss on drying≤2.0%0.19%
pH3.0–4.03.67

The reference lot was produced on May 22, 2026 and tested on May 23, 2026. Its disclosed identification result uses HPLC retention-time comparison. Review the original document and agree the required specification for the actual delivery lot.

What else belongs in a batch review?

  • Identity and analytical method, including the reference standard where needed.
  • Purity, assay basis and the impurity information required for the project.
  • Loss on drying or water testing, residual solvents, elemental and microbiological results as applicable.
  • Production and test dates, lot number, release conclusion, storage and expiry information.

A COA may not include every project-specific test. If particle-size, chromatogram or stability information is needed, request it separately and confirm its scope rather than assuming it is included.

From a COA to sample and shipment acceptance

Record the approved specification and evaluation sample lot. For commercial delivery, match the shipment label to its corresponding COA and check the agreed requirements. Use the NMN formulation stability guide for process and storage evaluation; a release COA alone does not establish finished-product shelf life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the website purity specification the same as every historical NMN COA limit?+

No. Read the current product specification separately from the specification and result printed on a disclosed historical COA. Agree the requirements for the actual shipment and check the matching lot document.

Does 100.0% dry-basis assay replace a purity result?+

No. Dry-basis assay and chromatographic purity must be interpreted with their respective methods and calculation bases. A reported value should not be used as a substitute for a differently defined test.
