NR Hydrogen Malate (NRHM): What Buyers Should Verify
What is NR hydrogen malate?
Nicotinamide riboside hydrogen malate (NRHM, CAS 2415659-01-5) is a defined salt of the nicotinamide riboside (NR) cation and hydrogen malate. Published research reports crystalline NR hydrogen-malate forms and characterized a particular test material with a molecular weight of 388.33 g/mol and approximately 66% NR and 34% malate by mass. These figures describe that reported compound; verify the supplier’s exact stoichiometry, hydration state and assay basis for the offered grade.
What should buyers compare?
Compare NRHM with NR chloride against the project’s written specification rather than assuming one form is universally superior. Review identity and CAS, counter-ion, water content, assay basis, related substances, packaging, and the intended process. If flow, moisture uptake or stability matters, request comparative results for the actual grades under stated conditions.
| Buyer check | NR chloride | NR hydrogen malate |
|---|---|---|
| Salt identity | Verify NR chloride and its specified CAS. | Verify NR hydrogen malate, stoichiometry and its specified CAS. |
| NR-equivalent content | Confirm total-salt versus NR-moiety assay and “as is” versus dry basis. | Use the exact grade’s composition and assay. Do not assume the research ratio applies to every offer. |
| Powder handling | Review the offered grade and packaging. | Review the offered grade and packaging. Do not infer a handling advantage from the word “malate”. |
| Stability | Request data for the exact material, pack, temperature, humidity, duration and method. | Request data for the exact material, pack, temperature, humidity, duration and method. |
Evidence and its limits
A published NRHM toxicology paper describes a specific NRHM test material and its composition. Its safety and solution-study results apply to that test material and protocol; they do not establish commercial superiority, human efficacy, regulatory acceptance in every market, or dry-powder stability for another supplier’s grade. A separate paper characterized crystalline NR hydrogen-malate salts and describes stability measurements under specified solution conditions. Neither source is a substitute for current batch documentation.
Do not use general statements such as “less hygroscopic,” “more stable,” “better bioavailability,” or “higher flow” unless comparative data support the exact grades being offered. Likewise, a patent, regulatory filing or market authorization for one NR salt should not be represented as automatically covering another salt.
Documents to request
- Product specification with chemical identity, salt form and CAS
- Batch COA with assay basis, water result and test methods
- Related-substances profile and available impurity controls
- Storage and packaging information for the offered grade
- Stability data identifying study material and test conditions
- Market-specific documents for the exact salt and intended use
Review the current NR Hydrogen Malate product specification and the NR Chloride specification. Ask the supplier to identify the reason for recommending a particular salt and provide the supporting grade-specific evidence.
