What Is NMNH?

Reduced Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMNH, CAS 108347-85-9) is the dihydro (reduced) form of nicotinamide mononucleotide, a nucleotide that sits directly on the NAD+/NADH biosynthetic pathway. Its molecular formula is C11H16N2O8P with a molecular weight of 335.23 g/mol. Unlike its oxidized counterpart NMN, NMNH is not known to occur in appreciable amounts in common foods or tissues and is essentially a specialty biochemical obtained through targeted production rather than extraction. Commercial-scale material is typically manufactured via a biocatalytic route: a fermentation-derived, engineered enzyme from the Nudix pyrophosphatase family is used to selectively convert NADH into NMNH and AMP under mild aqueous reaction conditions, after which the product is purified by chromatography, concentrated under oxygen-limited conditions to protect its reduced state, and dried into a stable powder.
