NMN, NR & NAD+ in Australia: What Can You Sell?

Can you sell NMN, NR or NAD+ in Australia?
The answer depends on the ingredient, salt form, finished-product category, label claims and the Australian sponsor or responsible entity. A capsule, gummy or drink format does not by itself determine the regulatory pathway.
NMN has conditions for the listed-medicine pathway
TGA public information lists conditions for NMN use in listed medicines, including active oral use, a maximum recommended daily dose of 500 mg, a maximum recommended period of 12 weeks, adults only, and restrictions for pregnancy or lactation. Until 10 December 2027, the sponsor arrangement described by TGA also needs to be checked with the named primary sponsor or an authorised secondary sponsor.
Review the NMN product page and confirm the current TGA condition before making a commercial decision.
NR Chloride and NR Hydrogen Malate require separate checks
TGA has a compositional guideline for Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride (CAS 23111-00-4). FSANZ A1214 concerns NRC as a vitamin B3 form in special medical purpose food; it should not be read as a blanket permission for every ordinary gummy or beverage. NR Hydrogen Malate is a separate salt and needs its own target-category review. Compare the NR Chloride and NR Hydrogen Malate specifications before sourcing.
NAD+ is not a listed-medicine ingredient
TGA warns that NAD, NAD+ and NADH are not permitted ingredients in listed medicines. This does not automatically mean every research, food or authorised therapeutic use is prohibited, but it does mean the product category and authorisation must be reviewed case by case. A COA, purity result or low-endotoxin report is quality evidence—not proof of Australian market authorisation. Review the NAD+ product page.
Questions to send a supplier before ordering
- What is the exact ingredient identity, CAS number and salt form?
- Is the product food, FSMP, listed medicine, therapeutic product or research material?
- Which TGA or FSANZ condition supports the intended use?
- What sponsor, ARTG and label-claim review is required?
- Can the supplier provide a matching batch COA, stability data, packaging and sample?
Evidence boundary
This article is a procurement and project-screening aid, not legal advice. Australian classification, import and advertising decisions should be confirmed by the responsible local entity against current TGA and FSANZ requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an NMN COA prove that a product can be sold in Australia?+
No. A COA documents a raw-material lot; classification, sponsor, ARTG, label and market requirements remain separate.
Does the NRC food permission cover every gummy?+
No. The cited FSANZ approval is for a specified special medical purpose food use and should not be generalized to every ordinary food format.
